Consequences

Just having extraordinary abilities was only the tip of the iceberg that weighed so heavily on the shoulders of young Clark Kent. Ever since he had really come to understand how different he was, he’d felt the constant pressure of possibly being found out by his friends, or worse, his enemies. Granted, for an 18 year old on the verge of completing high school, his only real enemy was the ever-so-popular Whitney Fordman. Not that Clark had a real reason to dislike Whitney (except for having Clark strung up in a corn field…). He was really just in the way of Lana.

Ah, Lana… Young, beautiful, and incredibly intelligent. At least, that’s how Clark saw her. The only girl for him, she was always at the forefront of his mind, and when he caught a glimpse of her that fateful day outside of the Talon, he couldn’t help but stare…

“Oof!”

Having been completely distracted, Clark had run right into the stiffly squared shoulders of his arch-nemesis: Whitney.

“Watch it, Kent!” Whitney growled.

“Sorry,” Clark told him, but he didn’t really mean it.

“If you’re going to apologize, it should be for staring at my girlfriend.”

“St-staring,” Clark stammered. He was very much put-off by Whitney’s brazen declaration. “I wasn’t… We’re just friends, Whitney.”

“I’m not blind, Clark. You lost your shot with her, remember? So back the hell off. Let’s not forget,” Whitney leaned in close. “I know your secret. All your secrets, Clark. And nothing, nothing you’ve done for me gives you the right to interfere with our relationship, so stay away if you’d like to keep that charming farm boy face in one piece.”

Installment 2: Gruesome

“…10-10 at 3rd and 9th…”

Don and Rodie had barely buckled themselves into their seats in the front of Don’s upgraded Dodge police cruiser before the female voice chimed through the radio in the dash. The former Jersey resident gave a quick glance and grin to his partner as he shifted the vehicle into drive, clicked on the siren and Continue reading Durango – Installment 2

Installment 3: All That, & For What?

The picture might have been overdoing it, but he kept it on the desk as a reminder. Fuel for the fire, motivation to continue, etc, etc. The captain had urged him several times to take it down, that it was too dark to leave so openly on display, but Rodie disagreed. Without it, he knew he’d begin to forget, and then he’d  Continue reading Durango – Installment 3

Installment 4: Well That Was Unexpected

Wrap it up… Oh, I’ll wrap it up, that’s for sure. Rodie struggled to contain the flurry of words that rushed through his mind, all of which he very much desired to send flying at Marcus, the idiot of a DA who had cut the deal with Stokes and Harvey. In just a few minutes,  Continue reading Durango – Installment 4

Installment 5: Clues To Nowhere?

It was like putting together a puzzle, really. Start with one clue that leads to the next, moving and flowing from point to point until it started to take shape and become clear. At least, that’s how it was supposed to work. In this particular case, however, Rodie was baffled, because nothing made sense. Whoever had killed Marcus was  Continue reading Durango – Installment 5
