Home

Well. It has been a hot minute since I have posted anything (yes, I said hot minute. Showing my age. Get over it lol.) Considering the rather melancholy note on which I left this blog inactive (see this post for reference), it is quite fitting that I should come back today with a remarkably positive spirit. A bit of inspiration was sparked from someone very dear to me. We were discussing hope, love and just sharing life through a conversation when she said something that gave me such pause that I stopped to not only remark on how beautiful I thought it was, but also that I felt I had heard it somewhere.

Turns out, I was wrong (it happens, I know. I was as shocked as you). It was and is a phrase entirely of her own making, not to be found anywhere else. Being the researcher that I am, I couldn’t help but look and, while some sentiments have been expressed of a similar manner, this particular thought was wholly new and hers.

Before I share exactly what was said, I would like to humbly thank you, dear reader, for being here. And I do not mean here, on this page, but here: alive, present, breathing. Doing life, through all its ups and downs. Challenges, joys, wins, losses, heartbreaks and teary eyed moments of joy with everything in between. Wherever you are in life today, know that you are loved. You are worthy of love. You are worthy of being cherished. You are worthy of all the good and beautiful things this life has to offer, and however this article finds you, I pray that you understand and know to your very inner being just how remarkable you are. Inside and out.

I hope that you will take this next thought with you, and cherish it as I do…

“Protect this house, and I will make it a home.” – Amanda B. Duncan

Pause. Don’t read on just yet. Take a beat to read it again, and think about what it means to you before I share what it means to me.

A home is not made up of stone and mortar, wood or paint. It’s comprised of the people that cross the threshold every single day. Those souls who eat a meal at a table, sit by the fire, enjoy books by the window and otherwise just enjoy life together before they lay down their heads in peaceful rest each night. A home… Is family.

Protect them, those people that make the house a home, and a real home you shall indeed have.
