Religion vs Relationship

Out of darkness, into marvelous light. You’ll read that phrase multiple times in the coming paragraphs, and it is and will be a common theme on this site. From deep and meaningful posts to intricate and passionate fiction: all for the glory of the God that rescued me! Out of darkness, into marvelous light. That resonates within my spirit, bounces around the inside of my home, echoes across the yard… Out of darkness, into marvelous light! It’s the true Gospel message, one that is starting to break out in a world that so desperately needs to hear it. Seriously, we live in one divided, divisive, lost, confused and outright broken world. I’m here to bring light in all aspects of life, especially with this blog as a place of refuge, passion and hope!

I don’t know what you were taught in the years that you’ve been graced with on this earth. Raised in a traditional church household, perhaps. Maybe your feet have never even crossed the threshold of any church building. For the most part, you wouldn’t be missing much even if you had. The majority of churches aren’t built on hallowed ground anymore. Or if they were, most have lost what made them hallowed in the first place.

Think about that for a second: hallowed ground. Moses found himself in the presence of God and was told that he needed to remove his sandals, for the earth on which he walked was hallowed ground. Psalms tells us (and Peter reaffirms this in the New Testament) that even creation itself cries out, screams the name Yahweh. You see, the ground, even the floorboards of a building that rests in the presence of the Almighty can’t help but become hallowed ground in that presence, and the spirits of the people that walk it can’t help but feel the presence when they stand on that ground!

Oh, man is my spirit soaring! For my feet, right now, are on hallowed ground (metaphorically, as I am cross legged in my chair as I draft this). The home in which I and my dear family reside is hallowed ground because of the presence of the Almighty. This sounds like craziness to most people, and that is just too exciting for me! The song “Crazy People” by Casting Crowns comes to mind…

I’m ranting, and that’s ok (it happens a lot). God is moving, speaking… channeling his spirit, and the light that is shedding as a result is remarkable. I can’t wait for you to experience it! Praise God for setting me free! Praise God that he set my wife free years ago! Praise God that he is bringing about an awakening! Out of darkness, into marvelous light!

Do you believe in God? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t. You might believe in him, and think him a tyrant. You might believe in him, but follow only because you were taught that it was the way to live. I am here to tell you that there is so much more! The God that created you hates watching you be a slave to darkness. He didn’t create you so that you could meander through life, from heartache to hurt, stuck in an endless cycle of brokenness and despair. He created you to be a slave to him, and in that slavery, to quite ironically be totally free!

Let me explain. Apart from God, no one is good. I’ll say it louder for those in the back. Apart from God, no one does good! I clacked the keys on the keyboard quite ferociously as I typed that out for the second time. No. One. Not a single person is truly good apart from oneness with God. You are either in darkness, or you are in light, and darkness cannot dwell in you. Jesus called anything in-between as being lukewarm, and he said that he would vomit you out of his mouth. He would rather you be in darkness than be lukewarm, because at least if you’re in total darkness, he can blast radiant, freeing light into you and wake up that cold, dead heart to the freedom that he brings! Hallelujah, that he sets us free!

When you are walking with God, understanding that he has indeed made you a new creation, having rebranded and renamed you as his son or daughter, no longer a slave to sin but a servant of God, some interesting things start to happen. I only very recently understood this, and I have already seen them happening.

Illness starts to flee. Funny how that works, honestly. It’s quite simple, really. Sickness steals time away from the work that God has for you, so when you walk in oneness with him, sickness has no place within you. Think on that for a moment. Really ponder it and let it sink in. Peter the apostle believed this so strongly, understood it so clearly that he would go places and people would quite literally be healed simply by being near him, in his presence.

Did God change and stop doing that? Did the spirit that he sent to the apostles somehow change and stop doing that? What an absurd notion! In actuality, what’s happened is much worse than that. Satan as our great adversary saw and understood what was happening in the people of God after Jesus came and it scared him to death, so he studied, he learned and he figured out that all he had to do was twist the message. He did to our modern churches what the Pharisees of Jesus’ day did to theirs. He made it a message of subservience for works sake, and not a Gospel of love. He twisted it into “good” works bring faith and therefore salvation, instead of OUT OF DARKNESS AND INTO MARVELOUS LIGHT.

Whoo! Someone get it, read this, feel the spirit move and understand the message! I did not become so powerfully rescued by my God so that I could hide that message. Never can I hide the light he flooded into my being when he re-identified me as his son! If I hide it, I become an insult to his great name and a disgrace to the grace that he shared with me! A city on a hill cannot be hidden, and by grace, God has made me a city on a hill! God is moving… Can you feel it yet??

Another fascinating thing that happens when you understand this, when you surrender and become a new creation by the grace and light and love of the Father… Resources become the one thing holding you back from further expanding God’s kingdom here on earth, and suddenly, you get more resources. It defies logic. You spend more, you bless more, you give more, and your cup does indeed run over just like the Bible promises. Listen to me, and here it well. To the genuine, reborn and re-branded child of God, if resources become the only thing stopping you from sharing the love of the Father, of spreading his light, of expanding that city on the hill so that his light shines on more and more people, than as you need them, God will provide. Period. It’s beautiful, incredible, and wonderful to experience. There is no greater security on earth than to surrender to God and allow him to have full reign over your heart and life, total control over all of the resources at your disposal.

Wake up, dear reader! If you read this, and I know some will do this… Read it, feel the presence of the Father wash over you, and do simply this: let it. Be overwhelmed, drop to your knees if need be. Surrender. Let go of the idea that you need to get your act together before you approach the throne of God. That’s absurd. You are not good. Right now, unsaved, or thinking that you were saved but realizing and knowing now that you simply are not, you are drifting, you are not good, and you will never be good. You can’t make yourself good enough to approach the God that made you, but HE can completely transform you and make you good so that you can stand before him as his child! He will give you a freedom that you cannot possibly understand until you stand there, after he’s banished the darkness and flooded you with his marvelous light! Then, you’ll walk in it, and nothing will ever be the same for you again.

Welcome, dear reader, to a new life and the greatest, most fulfilling adventure you could ever hope to find.

With love, a child of the King.
